Welcome to the Woodend Fire Brigade
This website has been created to provide a valuable information resource to both members of the brigade and our community.
The Woodend Fire Brigade was established in 1896 as the local community responded to the need to protect life and property in what is now regarded as one of the most dangerous fire risk areas in the world.
We are a wholly volunteer brigade, one of eight in the Mt Macedon Group, with more than 50 active members.
Aside from bushland, there are about 1000 homes and a resident population of more than 3000 in our area. There are also schools, pre-schools, public halls, plus numerous shops, restaurants, nurseries, guesthouses, public utilities, churches, sporting and community groups.
In addition to bushfires, the brigade attends structure and vehicle fires and a diverse range of other incidents. Motor vehicle accidents form a major part of the workload, especially in winter. Aside from fires and emergencies in the local area, the brigade often provides support to neighbouring brigades in all directions. We are also called on to render assistance as part of Strike Teams when there are major fires in many other parts of Victoria and interstate.
The Woodend CFA is a volunteer emergency service committed to Creating a Safer Community.

Fire Restrictions Period
Fire restrictions ended on 22nd March 2010. You can now burn off grass, scrub or rubbish without a permit, so long as the pile being burned does not exceed 2 cubic metres.
However, please use extreme caution as there is still dry grass and undergrowth left from summer.
