At 2pm on Easter Saturday we were called to a Grass & Scrub Fire (G&SF) on Donalds Road, which was contained fairly quickly. As the vehicles were on return to the station we were called to another G&SF on Romsey Road, near Hanging Rock. This was a much bigger fire that required additional trucks from Newham and Hesket-Kerrie. Whilst we were fighting this fire, at 3.30, we were called to another G&SF on Shannons Court, which required Woodend T2 to move quickly and additional appliances from Woodend and Mt Macedon. Then, just as the latter two above were being brought under control, there was a call to another G&SF on Chambers Road at 4.20pm – requiring assistance from Tylden and Trentham Brigades. All Woodend appliances were used and members did a terrific job. Several crews then returned to the larger Romsey Road fire to ensure a large stand of trees was extinguished, returning to the station at about 8pm. Then to top off a great afternoon, at 9.20pm, we were called to a smoke alarm operating at the Woodend Golf Club. To avoid a similar Easter Sunday, please take care when burning off!
