Woodend CFA volunteers have been very busy over the last few days fighting the fires in Lancefield-Benloch. Since Tuesday more than 20 Woodend CFA volunteers have fought in day and night shifts in very dangerous conditions. As part of the Mt Macedon Group Strike Team we helped save at least 5 homes that were seriously threatened. Very hard and tiring work, but very rewarding.

However, there has been a very disappointing downside. We are staggered at the number of people who believe that this was a CFA burn off that got out of control. To make it very clear, the CFA does not undertake planned burns. We are an organisation, primarily volunteer, that is dedicated to saving lives and property. These planned burns are undertaken by DELWP (nee DSE, DEPI). The CFA unfortunately becomes the lead organisation in sorting out the mess when one gets out-of-control.

The Woodend CFA is 100% volunteers. And over 20 of our members gave up their days and nights for these fires … to help save lives and property. Well done team!
