About 12 months ago, the Woodend CFA decided to upgrade our front garden area, starting with the removal of some old and diseased gum trees. It was then decided to turn the area into an example of a fire safe garden, so that the community could come and see a real example of a garden that was designed with fire resistant plants and mulch. A real life example of how to develop a garden around your home in a high fire prone area. Working with the landscape team at the Macedon Nursery a design was developed and yesterday Woodend CFA volunteers planted the garden. The next step is fire safe mulch. Stay tuned to when the garden will be officially opened to the public to come and visit. A great effort by all involved for what will be a valuable community and education asset.
