Just after 9.30am this morning we were called to a structure fire on Mt Macedon. We were asked to send Woodend Pumper with as many BA operators as possible. Fortunately all five crew members were BA credited. On arrival we found one of the mountains’ most historic 100 year old homes fully involved. Fortunately the 96 year old resident had been assisted from the building before the fire took hold. Appliances from Macedon, Mt Macedon, Woodend, Gisborne and Riddells Creek brought the fir e under control in about an hour, and remained on scene for several hours to ensure it was fully extinguished.
The fire was started by a log that had fallen from an open fire. Ironically the house was one of the few on that side of Mt Macedon Road that had survived Ash Wednesday. A timely reminder for everyone to check their winter safety plans, including working smoking alarms and solid fire guards.
Another great job by Macedon Ranges CFA volunteers.
