This afternoon we were called to an illegal burnoff during the Fire Danger Period. What made matters worse was that when extinguishing the fire we discovered a range of materials that had been burnt including a mattress, number plates and potentially cement sheeting contains asbestos. Our members spent longer going through the decontamination process than actually putting out the fire. All the more dangerous with Dangerous Total Fire Ban this Saturday’s, where strong winds could possibly re-ignite the burn. A $20 trip to the Transfer Station or simple phone call to see if you are allowed to burn off, is a lot cheaper than a possible $500 fine. PLEASE NOTE: The Fire Danger Period restrictions are still in place, and burning off is forbidden, with Police to be called under Zero Tolerance.
