This afternoon just before 1pm Woodend CFA was called to a structure fire that was fully involved and clearly visible from several kilometres away. Tylden Tanker arrived on scene just before Woodend Pumper, followed by Woodend T1 and T2, Carlsruhe Tanker and Trentham Big Fill. Fire fighters were confronted by a home that could not be saved and immediately set about containing the fire with crews using breathing apparatus due to the levels of toxic materials. The property is well known to Woodend CFA as a hoarding property, with levels of rubbish inside and outside the house making the fire fight more difficult. Teams used a total of some 25 Breathing Apparatus (BA) cylinders which were refilled on site by Ballarat PE, allowing the dangerous fire fight to continue. Crews extinguished the fire and departed at around 5pm. A huge thank you to the brave and talented volunteers from Woodend, Tylden, Carlsruhe and Trentham for their dedication and skills. Fortunately the single female owner was safe as was one of her dogs, but it appears she lost another dog in the fire. We will return to the property early tomorrow morning to ensure all is OK. Well done CFA volunteers!
