We were called out last evening at 6pm to a shed on fire in the old sawmill complex on Blackforest Drive. Woodend T1 and FCV were first on scene and quickly assisted property owners to bring the fire under control. They were soon joined by Woodend T2 and Support, followed by trucks from Macedon and Mt Macedon. The building was riddled with old saw dust which had built-up in the corners and settled in all sorts of nooks and crannies. Once the fire was controlled we called Gisborne CFA for their Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC), which indicated pockets of heat in many areas. It took more than an hour to extinguish all of the hot spots, which were unseen by the naked eye. Woodend attended again this morning with the Gisborne TIC to ensure all was cool, and it was. It is believed the fire may have started by sparks from welding that had gone into the sawdust, and the strong winds yesterday fanned the fire. Just another example of local brigades working together to get the job done.
