At 8.15 this morning Woodend CFA was called to house fire. Woodend Captain went direct to the scene and discovered a large printing device had caught fire in the garage. The first thing he did was check on the fire and make sure the young family was safely evacuated. Fortunately, the residents had closed the garage door into the house, which contained the fire.
Woodend Pumper was quickly on scene, and fire fighters wearing BA entered the garage to start the initial attack. Woodend Tanker 1 and Support then arrived, and the fire was quickly extinguished. We used our TIC to then check the area, including the roof space, to ensure there were no hot spots. The only damage further into the house was from smoke. Trucks from Gisborne and Macedon were en route, but not required.
The parents were checked by Ambulance paramedics, and the father taken away for checks on smoke inhalation. A great result as the house was saved and the family all OK. In fact, the family did a fantastic job in helping save their own house. The mother told Woodend Captain that she had seen a recent post on the Woodend CFA Facebook page, advising people to close doors to contain a fire to a room … and this is exactly what they did. This certainly contained the fire and stopped it spreading into the roof space.
The photo used is not from the scene, and an example only.
