Yesterday afternoon we were called a grassfire spreading in North Woodend. It turned out the property owner was burning a large pile when strong winds blew embers into a nearby gum tree, which then caught fire. Crews from Woodend, Newham and Hesket were involved in bringing the tree and burn pile under control, which took about an hour. Whilst we encourage property owners to clean up and burn off before restrictions come into place, it is not a good idea to burn on a day of extremely strong winds!
