A fire started at Pastoria yesterday afternoon in those amazingly strong winds. Woodend T1 attended with crew Simon Bailey, Kim Tully, Stewart McKinnon, Richard Price and young Andrew Purcell (first big fire). Pictures show draughting with heli attack and working the flank with Newham, which gives a good idea of the lack of visibility when in a bushfire.
Fought the fire to the rear of the Granite Hills winery on the north flank then attacked the head of the fire on Young’s Rd with air support. Once the fire was under control at sunset we patrolled the control line with graders and dozers.
Crews on scene from 1730 until midnight.
