At approx 5pm yesterday Woodend CFA was called to a ‘Burn Off Out of Control’. The strong winds with the cool change had fanned an old burn off and quickly spread it into some adjoining rubbish piles and then into two large gum trees. Woodend FCV and T1 were first on scene, and Woodend Captain quickly called for the assistance of Woodend T2 and Newham T1 and T2. At one point, the winds sent embers into an adjoining paddock and started a small spot fire as well. It took over 2 hours to bring the fire under control.
