Yesterday afternoon Woodend was called to attend the Sunbury fire as part of Strike Team 0220. Woodend FCV led the ST with tankers from Hesket, Macedon and Newham, with Gisborne and Riddell tankers already on scene. We were tasked to the Western Sector working alongside Strike Team 1403. An extensive area had been burnt, in very hilly and difficult conditions. A sign of the long and dangerous summer that lies ahead of us. Crews worked brilliantly to black out an extensive area, and also enjoyed some excellent fare prepared by the Salvos during a well-earned break. Woodend FCV and other Strike Team vehicles returned to stations around 11pm last night. Great work by all involved. Thanks to Woodend and Newham volunteers for the photos.
