About 2 hours ago we were called to grass fire in North Woodend. It was started by a ride-on mower, probably with grass becoming entangled in the belts under the covers and igniting with the heat. Woodend FCV, T1 and T2 quickly had it under control, limiting spread to about half an acre. Property owners need to aware of rules in regard to mowers and tractors, for example a ride-on should be carrying 9 litres of water or an equivalent extinguisher. In this case, none was carried. Fortunately the owner is OK, and fire spread was limited. However, another case of sticky beakers coming out and getting in the way when trucks are responding quickly to a fire. Please keep out of the way, to avoid delays in attacking an incident ASAP.
