Woodend CFA elects new Management Positions

The Woodend Fire Brigade recently held its bi-annual election for BMT (Brigade Management Team) and senior operative positions and the results were as follows: Captain – Mick Christie, 1st Lieutenant – Mike Dornau, 2nd Lieutenant – Steve Ritchie, 3rd Lieutenant – Kim Tully, 4th Lieutenant – Malcolm Judd, Communications Officer – Keith Mason, Community Safety Officer – Mike Dornau (Assistant Mike Selby), Health & Safety Officer – Steve Ritchie, Secretary – Annette van Huffel, Treasurer – Steve Ritchie, Training Officer – Kim Tully (Assistant Paddy Callaghan), Fire Equipment Maintenance – Keith Beman (Assistant Kate Daniel), Member Support – Stewart McKinnon (Assistant Andrew Price), Association Representatives – Ray Colban & David Muir, Social Secretary – Sue Hobbs, Group Delegates – Mick Christie & Mike Dornau.

WE CELEBRATE 120 YEARS

The Woodend CFA recently celebrated our annual dinner and award presentations, marking 120 years since the Brigade’s foundation in 1896.

Captain Mick Christie was joined by Operations Officer Andy Waterson to present a range of awards to members: 5 years – Paddy Callaghan, Sue Hobbs, Jack McKinnon; 10 years – Annette van Huffel, Geoff Wells, Nigel Parks; 15 years – Alma Warnock; 45 years – John Keating; 60 years – Brian Scanlan. Not present: 5 years – Laura Luvara, Dion Gooderham; 35 years – Mick O’Loughlin.

The Member of the Year award went to Natt Briggs, who was voted ahead of Sue Hobbs, Mike Selby, Will Parkin and Brad Newell.

Stewart McKinnon and his crew from last year’s Benloch fire were presented with the Captain’s Award for seriously bogging Woodend Tanker 1, which required a large dozer to extricate. And a huge thanks to Sue Hobbs and her team for organising another great event.
