At 2.30 on Saturday afternoon Woodend CFA was called to a Grass and Scrub Fire on Einsporns Road. The best access to the fire turned out to be from Walshes Road. Tylden FCV was first on scene and quickly joined by Tylden tankers, Woodend FCV, Woodend Tankers, Woodend Support and Tankers from Trentham, Carlsruhe and Macedon, as well as Trentham Big Fill. The 6+ acre fire was quickly brought under control, made difficult by steep rocky terrain and several large trees on fire. Brigades were on scene for a total of 5 hours blacking out. Another good save.
The entry was made so much easier by people actually getting to the road and gate to direct trucks in quickly. This is a big help and saves valuable, time looking for the best entry point.
The fire was believed to have started by someone slashing and hitting a rock. A reminder that VicPol have a zero tolerance policy to anyone starting a fire, even if it is not on a TFB, and fines can result.
Thanks to Kyneton FF Matt Henderson for the aerial photo.
