This morning just after 9am we were called to a tree on fire in the Cobaw forest. Woodend Tanker 1 arrived on scene soon after Newham Tanker & FCV and Lancefield Tanker, to discover a large old habitat tree on fire. It looks as though some idiots were camping there over the weekend, and actually lit their camp fire in the hollow of the lovely old tree, to protect it from the rain. If that wasn’t bad enough, they naturally left without fully extinguishing the fire, and over time the tree caught alight. Brigades quickly brought the fire under control and handed over to DELWP who manage that area. Lucky it was not windy, as the area is in the middle of some dense bushland.
